Summary

The MADINAS Working Group held an interim meeting to review the status of its chartered documents and, primarily, to discuss detailed plans for the upcoming Hackathon at IETF 118 in Prague. The Hackathon will focus on comparing different Open Roaming implementations and evaluating potential privacy leakage. Updates were provided on the progress of the MAC Randomization document and the Open Roaming Use Cases document.

Key Discussion Points

Working Group Document Status:
- MAC Randomization Current State of Affairs (Charter Item 1): The document's authors (the chairs) are seeking a third party to run the Working Group Last Call (WG LWC) to avoid potential conflicts of interest. An announcement regarding this is expected shortly.
- Open Roaming Use Cases and Identity Requirements (Charter Item 2): This document is nearing completion. A new version is expected, incorporating comments discussed at IETF 117 in San Francisco. A WG LWC is anticipated following the release of this new version.
- BCP for Handling RCM (Roaming Consensus Management) (Charter Item 3): This document is directly linked to hackathon activities. The goal is to derive Best Current Practices from experimental learnings. No candidate document has been proposed yet, pending further insights from the upcoming hackathon and continued experiments, building on initial results presented by Warren at IETF 117.
IETF 118 Hackathon Plans (Prague):
- Objective: To compare different Open Roaming implementations and investigate potential privacy leakage across these implementations.
- Anticipated Contributions:
  - Bruno offered support with a WBA device provisioning portal to facilitate downloading Open Roaming profiles for various Identity Providers (IDPs).
  - Bart plans to bring two distinct Access Network (AN) configurations: one based on Cisco Catalyst Access Points and another utilizing Meraki (cloud-based controller).
  - Carlos intends to set up a Turris Omnia-based Access Network (Linux-based device) to replicate a previous experimental setup by Warren, aiming to provide a stable test platform for future hackathons.
  - Warren is expected to bring his Open Roaming configuration from the previous IETF for further testing.
- Federation and Certification: Due to the federated nature of Open Roaming, collaboration with the WBA is essential to obtain the necessary certificates for IDP and ANP implementations (device profiles do not require these certificates). Offline planning for WBA certificate acquisition will commence, and participants needing certificates will be informed via the mailing list.

Decisions and Action Items

Peter has kindly agreed to run the Working Group Last Call for the MAC Randomization document.
The chairs will announce the individual responsible for running the WG Last Call for the MAC Randomization document shortly.
Chairs to coordinate offline planning for WBA certificate acquisition with interested hackathon participants.
A notice will be sent to the mailing list informing participants about the requirement for WBA certificates for IDP/ANP implementations at the hackathon.
Carlos will provide updates on the mailing list regarding his progress in setting up the Turris Omnia-based Access Network for the hackathon.

Next Steps

Proceed with the Working Group Last Call for the MAC Randomization document.
Publish the new version of the Open Roaming Use Cases and Identity Requirements document, followed by its Working Group Last Call.
Continue preparations for the IETF 118 Hackathon, including coordinating WBA certificates and setting up the various Access Network configurations.
