- It was noted that FFV1 V3 is widely used and a significant accomplishment. While FFV1 V4 contains some fixes (e.g., for oversized compressed frames), the motivation is not strong enough to warrant immediate attention. The milestone can be re-added later when there is clear demand and resources.
Matroska-Related Documents:
- Four documents were highlighted: codex, tags, chapter-codex, and control-tracks.
- codex and tags were deemed important, with tags potentially being the fastest to complete and codex expected to take more time. It was suggested both could be worked on in parallel.
- chapter-codex is actively being worked on, specifically to add a new feature for Ecmascript/JavaScript integration within Matroska.
- control-tracks was removed from the main Matroska document, and its future utility is uncertain.
- Matroska Version 5 (Matroska V5): It was noted that plans for Matroska V5 are already emerging, focusing on new features and elements rather than a complete revision. This work is slated for consideration later in the year, potentially after the current Matroska V4 (1,2,3,4) related work.
FFV1 Compression in PNG:
- A discussion was held regarding the proposal to embed FFV1 compression within a PNG container.
- The Area Director's opinion was that while technically feasible for the IETF to work on, the work would be more appropriately handled by the W3C, as PNG development has largely moved there.
- The group acknowledged a lack of sufficient motivation or a dedicated champion for this work.
- Implementing this would likely require a W3C institutional member to lead the effort, as W3C working group participation for substantive contributions typically requires membership.
