DIEM

Interim Meeting Minutes
Date: 2026-02-xx (Interim 2026-02)
Chairs: Sarah Jennings, Rohan Mahy
AD: Charles Eckel
Notes: Felix Linker

Summary

The DIEM working group met to resolve outstanding issues and pull requests (PRs) for draft-ietf-diem-requirements. The primary goal is to reach consensus on the use cases and requirements to establish a stable foundation for the upcoming architecture and protocol design work. The chairs noted that the current plan is to conduct a Working Group Last Call (WGLC) for the requirements document but not necessarily proceed to IETF Last Call/RFC publication immediately, allowing it to serve as a living reference.

Key Discussion Points

IHL Use Cases (PR 31 and PR 35)

Emblem Independence and Future-Proofing (PR 34)

Forensic Tracing and Proof of Presence (Issue 26, PR 25, PR 33)

Other Discovery Mechanisms (Issue 36)

Decisions and Action Items

Next Steps

  1. Finalize the security requirements section, which is currently a gap.
  2. Aim for a Working Group Last Call (WGLC) on the requirements draft following the next revision.
  3. Schedule an interim meeting before IETF 126 (Vienna) to begin focused work on the architecture document.
  4. Encourage interested contributors to start drafting architecture proposals based on the stabilized requirements.
