Summary

The Secure Asset Transfer Protocol (SATP) BOF session at IETF 115 aimed to discuss the problem space, proposed solutions, and suitability of the IETF for standardizing secure, interoperable digital asset transfers between disparate networks. Discussions covered the need for a standardized protocol to address fragmentation and proprietary solutions in digital asset exchanges, particularly in global trade and regulated finance. Two primary use cases were presented: asset transfer and asset-related data sharing. The session included a status report on the progress made since IETF 114 and gauged community interest and support for forming an IETF working group. While there was strong consensus that the problem needs to be solved and that the IETF is the right venue, concerns were raised regarding operator engagement and the scope of the proposed work. The ISG/ADs will deliberate on the next steps.
