Summary
The ANIMA session focused on reviewing the status of several key drafts, including those in the RFC Editor queue, drafts undergoing Working Group Last Call (WGLC), and drafts in active development. A sense of those present was that it should be pushed into the RFC editor cluster, with the caveat that it could be pulled back if significant changes from 8366bis arise. - 8366bis: The WGLC in October was successful. A few remaining "nits" will be addressed.
- BRISK Discovery: Has undergone IANA early review.
- GRASP, ANIMA Registrar Considerations, MAAS Considerations: These drafts are currently "parked" and will be revisited, potentially at IETF 125 or 126, to allow for better author availability.

Constrained BRISK (cBRISK) and Constrained Join Proxy (cJP) (Presented by Esco)

draft-ietf-anima-constrained-voucher-029):- Updates: Clarified how a Pledge uses the link-local address from a discovery response to contact a Join Proxy. Added support for multiple registrars and BRISK variants to prepare for future work from the BRISK Discovery draft.

BRISK Discovery (
draft-ietf-anima-brisk-discovery-07) (Presented by Torles)- The draft had no technical changes since IETF 123, with work focusing on editorial improvements and IANA early review.
- A significant outcome is a restructured IANA registry model, splitting three complex tables into five more granular ones (discovery mechanisms, context, service name, transport parameters, variation type choices, variation string).
- The draft includes update sections for existing RFCs: BRISK AE (RFC 8994), BRISK PRM, DNS-SD, and CoRE Link Format (RFC 6690), detailing how they should leverage the new discovery mechanisms. Torles noted a need to add an update section for cBRISK as well.
- Scott Eich raised concerns about the growing complexity of the document for implementers. Torles acknowledged this, suggesting an "implementer considerations" section or reordering the document to highlight the most relevant information (e.g., the
variation stringtable) upfront.

draft-ietf-anima-voucher-rfc8366bis-16) (Presented by Michael)- The draft is in its "last gasp" phase, with version 17 to be posted soon after incorporating all comments.
- YANG SID Allocation Issues: A significant and ongoing problem is the tooling for allocating SIDs (Structured Data Identifiers) for YANG modules. Michael described difficulties with existing tools and manual workarounds. Mahesh (AD) highlighted that while IANA can allocate blocks of SIDs, the programmatic allocation of these SIDs to leaf nodes in YANG files is where the tools struggle. This raises a concern about who will support IANA if they encounter tool bugs, as
draft-ietf-anima-voucher-rfc8366bisis the first document to require such an allocation. It was noted that this tool support is currently outside the IETF Tools Team's mandate.

ANIMA Registrar Considerations / MAAS Considerations (Presented by Michael)

AI Agent Communication Considerations (Presented by Joey Mao)
- Proposal: AI agents deployed in network devices can perform tasks based on natural language requests (e.g., troubleshooting). To overcome the limitation of local context, cross-device communication between AI agents is proposed.
- Framework: Categorizes agents into "Communication Agents" (entry point, capability aggregation, task dispatch) and "Worker Agents" (specific subtasks). These AI agents are seen as similar to ANIMA's Autonomous Service Agents (ASA).
- Protocol Requirements: Support for capability discovery/negotiation, task assignment/result collection, authentication/security, synchronous/asynchronous/streaming/bidirectional interaction, and structured/unstructured messages. Existing protocols like A2A MCP or GRASP could be extended.
- AD (Mahesh) Guidance: Recommended that all AI agent-related work be redirected to the IETF
agent-to-agentmailing list. This list centralizes such proposals to determine if a new WG or area is needed and to prevent "WG shopping." Mahesh emphasized that ANIMA's existing work (connectivity, discovery, key distribution for A&I/ASA) should be leveraged by the AI community to avoid re-invention. - Discussion on Scope: Esco and Sheng Yan commented that GRASP could be effectively used for discovering AI agent endpoints and announcing their capabilities, abstracting the "intelligence" which could reside off-device. Sheng Yan further suggested that "AI agent" might not represent fundamentally new behaviors for message exchange beyond what existing protocols like GRASP can handle. Ebbing, however, argued that this work is an "AI-enhanced ASA" and thus directly aligns with ANIMA's charter, making it a suitable discussion point for the WG.
