CCAMP

Summary

The CCAMP Working Group met at IETF 126. The session covered the status of active working group drafts, liaison agreements, and progressed several key items, including DWDM interfaces, WDM tunnels, Microwave links, and performance monitoring streaming. The working group also discussed several new proposals addressing the intersection of optical networks, service level agreements (SLAs), and artificial intelligence (AI) computing orchestration.

The agenda was bashed prior to the session to accommodate traveling constraints, moving the Microwave Radio Link presentation to the third slot.

1. Admin & Working Group Status

Discussion:
- Ramon Casellas presented the status of the priority queues for working group adoption and document progression.
- draft-ietf-ccamp-fgotn-yang was recently adopted.
- draft-ietf-ccamp-dwdm-if-param-yang has completed routing, operations, and YANG doctor reviews.
- Publication has been requested for the Flexigrid YANG document.
- For liaisons, Italo Busi has been nominated as the liaison manager for the Optical Internetworking Forum (OIF). Informative liaisons from ITU-T were received regarding IMT-2020/2030 and optical networking for AI orchestration.
- Dhruv Dhody noted that a liaison towards ITU-T regarding performance monitoring (PM) work is being prepared in coordination with the IPPM working group.

2. DWDM Interface Parameter YANG

Discussion:
- Roberto Manzotti presented updates, highlighting alignment with the pluggables gap analysis to add operational parameters, and realigning the model with the Network Management Datastore Architecture (NMDA). A complete JSON example was added to the appendix.
- Oscar Gonzalez de Dios asked whether there is a relationship with the Inventory (IV) topology work. Roberto Manzotti replied that this is primarily a controller-to-device model, and topology-level mapping should inherit the interface connection. Ramon Casellas agreed.
- Next steps include addressing a final minor comment regarding default values for read-only data, updating references to RFCs, and proceeding to Working Group Last Call (WGLC).

3. WDM Tunnels YANG

Discussion:
- Aya presented ongoing analysis of 3R regeneration scenarios, transponders, and muxponders, and how they impact end-to-end tunnel segmentation.
- Several standard (ITU-T, OIF) and proprietary scenarios are being mapped to ensure the model's flexibility. Gaps were identified around the definition of regeneration layers, digital termination, and inverse multiplexing types.
- The authors hold weekly meetings to finalize these scenarios and address outstanding routing director and YANG doctor comments.

4. Microwave Radio Link

Discussion:
- Jonas Allberg presented an update on the individual draft (renamed to include "ccamp") intended to update RFC 8561.
- The team is working through a list of open issues, including the mode of the radio link (changing from configurable to read-only), space diversity, loopback functions, cross-polarization interference cancellation, and carrier aggregation.
- Ramon Casellas noted an issue with the IPR poll due to an unreachable contributor who has left their company. Daniele Ceccarelli suggested moving the individual to the acknowledgements section to clear the block and proceed with a working group adoption call.

5. WDM Pluggable Modelling

Discussion:
- The presenter reported on gap analysis meetings focusing on capabilities, configuration, and statistics.
- Gaps related to statistics and configuration have already been added to draft-ietf-ccamp-dwdm-if-param-yang.
- Gaps related to capabilities will be addressed in "1993 bis" (RFC 1993/9093 bis) in parallel with tracking the IETF "Veloce" lightweight revision initiative.

6. CMIS Access and Control

Discussion:
- The presenter introduced a model mirroring the CMIS memory map to handle custom, vendor-specific pages and features not yet natively supported by a network operating system (NOS).
- Page-level access governance and read-only default policies were added to address security concerns.
- Feedback:
  - Roberto Manzotti questioned whether operators would deploy such low-level register tweaks directly in production networks versus lab environments.
  - Dieter Beller suggested incorporating these requirements into the pluggables drafts rather than maintaining a separate CMIS access draft.
  - Daniele Ceccarelli queried standardizing vendor-specific parameters and suggested the draft might be more suited for the Experimental track.

7. Performance Monitoring Streaming

Discussion:
- Following coordination with IPPM, the original single draft has been split into three: two generic drafts to be adopted in IPPM and one transport-specific draft in CCAMP.
- The CCAMP draft defines three groups of PM parameters based on ITU-T G.7710.
- Daniele Ceccarelli noted that CCAMP must wait for IPPM to adopt the generic foundation drafts before formally adopting the CCAMP extension. Bin Ye agreed to update the draft from Informational to Standards Track. Dieter Beller asked for clarification on the split, which Daniele Ceccarelli explained was necessary to ensure the foundational pieces are generic enough for wider IETF use.

8. Integration of Network Management Agent (NMA) into ACTN

Discussion:
- Xin Li presented updates showing coexistence with existing ACTN functions and detailing three deployment scenarios between the MDSC and PNC.
- Haomian Zheng supported putting the work in the queue but noted the need to track generic NMA framework progress in the IETF. Daniele Ceccarelli agreed but cautioned that CCAMP cannot formally reference the NMA framework until it becomes an adopted work item.
- Christian Schmutzer questioned the necessity of introducing new "agent" terminology when standard Netconf/YANG mechanisms already handle these interactions. Henry Yu responded that NMA standardizes how AI agents extend ACTN for service assurance and how those agents are managed. Daniele Ceccarelli suggested moving the architectural scope discussion to the mailing list.

9. SLA Assurance Management in Optical Transport Networks

Discussion:
- Henry Yu presented a new model focused on proactive "issue" detection (both symptomatic and asymptomatic) to prevent SLA violations.
- Daniel King noted that TEAS has active work on service assurance and ACTN POI applicability, and suggested reviewing how this draft aligns with or references TEAS.
- Haomian Zheng outlined two options: make the model generic in TEAS or focus strictly on Layer 0/1 SLA assurance within CCAMP.
- Christian Schmutzer pointed out overlap with other standards, such as Mplify, and urged the authors to avoid duplicating existing specifications. Luis Contreras requested the Mplify reference via the chat.

10. OSPF-TE Extensions for Computing Capability Advertisement

Discussion:
- Yan Xia proposed using OSPF-TE to advertise selected AI Data Center (AIDC) compute resources (GPU types, memory, utilization) alongside optical metrics.
- Daniele Ceccarelli and Adrian Farrel noted that while the application targets optical networks, compute metrics fall under the CATS working group, and routing protocol extensions fall under TEAS/LSR. Adrian Farrel advised the authors to review and align with CATS metric definitions first.
- Donald Fedyk suggested evaluating the update frequency and distribution of these parameters, as some highly dynamic metrics may not be suitable for OSPF-TE.

11. Optical Networks and AI Computing Orchestration (ONCO)

Discussion:
- Jun presented architectural updates on coordinating computing schedulers and optical controllers for AI workloads.
- The presentation mapped ONCO capabilities directly to ACTN architectural components (CNC, MDSC, PNC, CMI, MPI).
- Daniele Ceccarelli welcomed the clear mapping to ACTN and agreed this approach fits better within CCAMP compared to pure protocol extensions. Haomian Zheng agreed it is a solid starting point for evaluating computational-aware transport.

Decisions and Action Items

Decisions:
- The working group agreed to move the unreachable Microwave draft contributor to the acknowledgements section in order to resolve the IPR block and proceed.
Action Items:
- Roberto Manzotti: Submit a new revision of draft-ietf-ccamp-dwdm-if-param-yang addressing routing directory comments on default values to prepare for WGLC.
- Bin Ye: Update the PM streaming draft from Informational to Standards Track.
- SLA/NMA/OSPF/ONCO Authors: Cross-coordinate with the relevant working groups (TEAS, LSR, CATS, IPPM) to align metrics and architectures.

Next Steps

Progress draft-ietf-ccamp-dwdm-if-param-yang to WGLC once the minor updates are published.
Launch the working group adoption call for the Microwave Radio Link draft after resolving the IPR list.
Monitor IPPM's adoption of the PM streaming framework to trigger the subsequent CCAMP PM streaming adoption.
